Apple stated it will appeal a ban it received from Brazilian authorities which prevented it from selling iPhones without a charger.
Brazil’s justice ministry said by selling iPhones without chargers the US technology giant was a "deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers," by providing an incomplete product, reported Reuters.
The ministry fined Apple BRL12.27 million (US$2.38m) and ordered the company to cease sales of its iPhone 12 range, and any models that are packed without a means to charge the battery.
Apple argued its move to sell its smartphone without a charger was a move to be more sustainable by reducing carbon emissions, however, the authority said there is no evidence selling without chargers would reduce environmental damages.
The company said it will work with consumer protection agency Senacon to resolve the issue and file its appeal.
Apple said in a statement: "We have already won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter and we are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices.”
Apple is tipped to launch its new range of iPhones today (September 7).
