The telecom market regulator of Romania, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has approved its action plan for this year, which includes the auction for the awarding of frequency bands dedicated to applications using 5G technologies.
According to an official statement from ANCOM, the long-awaited auction of 5G frequencies in the 700MHz, 1500MHz and 3400MHz-3800MHz bands will be conducted during Q3.
The tender, which is expected to raise around EUR600 million (USD672 million), follows the allocation in November last year of short-term user rights for 5G-suitable frequencies in the 800MHz, 2600MHz, and 3.5GHz bands.
“Creating a legal framework adapted to current needs, supporting the development of the telecom sector, and protecting users, is ANCOM's main objective for this year. As soon as possible the transposition of the European Electronic Communications Code into national law will allow us to review and update existing national regulations so that we all benefit from the advantages and opportunities offered by a single European framework, in line with rapid developments in this field," said Vlad Stefan STOICA, president of ANCOM.
In 2022, the Authority will amend the decision on communications to the Single National Emergency Call System and the decision to establish measures for disabled end-users.
Also, in order to increase the degree of information and, at the same time, for the correct information of the end-users by the electronic communications operators, important aspects provided in the new communications code, ANCOM will elaborate new legislative provisions.
